The challenge

A stealth AI hardware startup needed 500 fully functional smart glasses in just 21 days for a critical VC demo and trade show showcase. Their previous partner quoted 8 weeks for NPI.

Our solution

We implemented an expedited NPI track in Shenzhen, utilizing parallel-path tooling development and pre-qualified in-stock component libraries to bypass typical procurement delays.

The Challenge: A stealth-mode startup specializing in AI-integrated eyewear faced a make-or-break moment. They had secured a high-stakes demo with a lead VC firm and a showcase slot at an upcoming tech summit—both just three weeks away. With only a 'golden sample' in hand and a design that hadn't been optimized for manufacturing, their existing partner had already told them the timeline was impossible.

The Solution

Illuminious deployed our Rapid-NPI (New Product Introduction) Protocol to compress the typical 2-month timeline into 21 days:

  • Emergency DFM Audit: Performed a 24-hour deep dive into the CAD files, identifying 5 thermal management issues that would have caused field failures.
  • Parallel-Path Tooling: Instead of waiting for final design tweaks, we began CNC fabrication of the frame molds while simultaneously refining the PCB layout.
  • Component Library Access: We utilized our Shenzhen-based pre-qualified inventory to secure 100% of the long-lead time sensors within 48 hours.

How We Did It

1. Design for Excellence (Day 1-2)

Our engineering team worked through the night to optimize the internal PCB stack-up. We replaced 3 scarce components with pin-compatible alternatives that were already in our Shenzhen inventory, eliminating a 6-week lead time delay.

2. Rapid SMT & Flex PCB (Day 3-10)

With designs finalized, we ran the first PCBA batches on our high-speed NPI lines. Automated optical inspection (AOI) ensured every flex-cable connection was perfectly seated before final assembly.

3. Full-System Box Build (Day 11-21)

The final assembly was performed in our ESD-controlled Shenzhen factory. We engineered a custom functional test jig that validated the AI voice-recognition performance of every pair of glasses in under 45 seconds.

"Illuminious didn't just manufacture our product—they saved our funding round. They saw the vision and matched our startup speed with world-class engineering discipline. Delivering 500 units in 21 days was something no one else in the industry could even quote."
